GTO Twin Turbo Build

The first step of the build is to strip the engine compartment down to make room for the turbos.   drivers side view with the exhaust manifold, ECM, and coolant reservoir removed.

Passenger side view with the exhaust manifold, cruise control, and ABS module removed.

The ABS module will have to be relocated to make room for the turbo.

Here is another view of the ABS module.   On the drivers side, the coolant reservoir and the ECM occupy a lot of real estate, but they should be easy to relocate.

With the coolant reservoir out of the way, the ECM is now exposed on the drivers side frame rail.   The ECM is removed and now it's time to start fabricating.

To start, we install  3/8" laser cut exhaust manifold flanges to the heads   We then weld a collector onto the turbos exhaust housing flange and position it in the general location for the turbo.

Next we weld a couple of steel rods to keep everything in place as a jig while we start piping the exhaust manifolds.   It's important  to make the jig strong enough to stay in shape, but still able to be taken apart.

Here's a shot of the finished jig for the passenger side.   Now we'll place the turbo onto the jig and see how it looks.

With everything looking good, the jig is removed from the car so that the piping can be cut and fit into place.   Using various J-bends and U-bends, we start planning the general layout of the exhaust manifolds.

First cylinder completed.   Notice that we leave plenty of room for the remaining cylinders.

Here are a couple of different perspectives.

The other piping is now fabbed into place.   Halfway to completion.
